Sea Breeze

I'm so very excited to share with you that I am now selling some of my pieces online at www.cynthiaweber.com.  The collection is still in the works, but much of it will showcase my recycled glass pieces.  Personally, I love the organic and natural quality of Indonesian recycled glass.  It comes in a variety of colours, but I especially love the muted greens.  These colours remind me of an ocean breeze and look so beautiful when paired with glass pearls and shell. 

The process for making recycled glass beads is not particularly easy.  While there are different methods used to make recycled glass beads, the overall process is the same.  Glass is collected, sorted and crushed into a fine powder.  This powder is then placed in molds and fired in a hot kiln.  Some shape the glass after it's been fired.  Others simply use the mold to hold the shape.  No two beads are exactly the same and they are all made by hand.  No chemicals are added to create the beautiful beach glass effect of the beads. 

Owning a recycled glass piece of jewelry allows you to truly feel like you own a unique piece of art.  While most of my designs are one-of-a-kind, each recycled glass bead is also a one-of-a-kind piece of art.  Below is one of my charm bracelets featured at www.cynthiaweber.com. 

Gold's Coming Back!

OK.  Well, maybe it never left.  But for me, it was never there in the first place!  I'm a silver kind of gal (white gold for the wedding bands).  Gold seemed, well... old.  It seemed a little too traditional, like something that my mom was expected to wear.  Silver was for more youthful, hipper folks.  Now, however, I can see the error of my ways!  I have seen the light!  Gold is actually pretty darn cool, especially matte gold mixed with silver elements.  Gold isn't just for old ladies!  It's for everyone - and it's definitely for me.  Here's a piece I created using some sweet little ribbon-like links.

Sparkling Spring

Soft, pretty, pastel colours are totally in for spring.  I just ordered myself the cutest ivory, Sea-Scalloped Blouse from FrockStock (www.frock-stock.com) and I can't wait to throw it on!  In keeping with the same trend, I created this light, airy, pale blue necklace to compliment a spring wardrobe.  (I also made earrings to match, which are not pictured.) 

What's your favourite Spring trend this year?  I've seen a lot of mint green and pastels out there.  I've also seen some floral-printed pants (which I'm personally not a fan of). I  think I could probably do the coloured skinnies, but floral pants are out of the question.  My favourite finds are in pale blue colours and shades of peach or coral.  I'm a girl's girl and frankly, I'm down with anything that's sparkly and pretty.  Bring on the warm weather!

The Three G's: Glitz, Glam, and Girly

I'm a big fan of chunkiness - when it comes to jewelry, that is!  The bigger the better!  I enjoy wearing pieces that others might say, "That's a bit wild!"  I also enjoy making pieces that aren't super wild, but a little edgy.  Do you own a piece that some might say is just plain crazy?  Do you love it?  Could you care less about what anyone says?  You know it's happenin' and that's really all that matters!   

Below are a couple of pieces that include, what I call "The Three G's".  One is quite chunky and the other is more delicate.  Nonetheless, each piece captures some glitz, glam and girliness that we, ladies, all seem to love.  The necklaces are made using faceted glass beads that hold a lot of light-catching sparkle.  The chunky necklace would look fabulous under a black, gray, purple or white collared blouse, peeking under the collar.  The second, more delicate necklace, would look great with a black or red sheath dress.

Spiked

What's seems to be really in right now are chains and a rocker vibe.  These tiny "spike" beads made me think "dog collar gone girly".  I thought of creating some kind of choker, but the bracelet is what transpired.  Oh, and I made earrings to match.  I have a question for all of you ladies (or men), though.  Do you like jewelry sets?  You know, the necklace with the matching earrings or bracelet?  Or, do you like buying individual pieces?  I'm seriously really curious, so please don't hesitate to leave me some feedback.  I've always sort of done individual pieces, but I know some women dig the sets.  Let me know your thoughts.  I'd love to hear them!

Rhinestones Are a Girl's Best Friend

How much do I love rhinestones?!  They are so girly and glitzy, and they're the next best thing to diamonds! I've been inspired lately, by a coworker, who regularly sports some beautiful jewelry with these sparkly stones.  I've also been inspired by my usual vintage jewelry and all the rhinestones found in brooches and clip-ons.  This world needs a little more bling!  I created this long, dainty rhinestone necklace and added some pearls to make it ultra girly.  This piece would be great with a white or cream collared blouse.  The design is simple so the jewels speak for themselves.  Hope you like it!

Ahoy, Sailor!

What the heck does that mean, anyway?  Ahoy?  A-huh?  I had these white vintage plastic beads forever, and I just couldn't figure out what to do with them.  I started to make a long necklace, but then I changed my mind.  I had these other antique bronze coloured beads that screamed for me to used them as well.  After a bit of playing around, I designed this nautical-inspired 5-strand necklace.  It reminds me of someone wealthy, (obviously not me), setting sail for a weekend getaway to some tropical country...  I totally can't relate, but that's what I think of!
